| | Seattle Metro Operated a large fleet of AMGeneral 10240 buses both diesel and
electric coaches. The diesel buses were phased out of service by 1996, and the
Trolleybuses were retired in 2003 with their electrical gear being rebuilt and
installed in new Gillig bodies.
Diesel coaches 1100-1245 featured raised platform seating and dual stream rear doors.
The seats were vinyl and cloth. Coaches 1246-1313 had single stream rear doors
and a flat floor with all vinyl seats. The last order, Coaches 1340-1349 were similar
except they had 8V71T's and Wheelchair lifts. These coaches were little used by
metro, and the lifts were never used in regular service because they were so unreliable.
By August of 1991, coaches 1340-1347 were overhauled for use on the Seattle
Express, a joint operation with Pierce Transit. The Wheelchair lift was removed,
and the coach received Grey carpeted floors, Red upholstered walls, Red
seatbacks and burgundy seats. Coaches 1348-1349 joined the first batch by
October of 1992. 6 of these buses were sold to Pierce Transit by May of 1995.
Pierce Transit retired them in 1999.
