King County Metro Transit Operates 5 ex Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board W2 class streetcars built in the 1920s. They run these cars on the #99 George Benson Waterfront Streetcar from 5th and Jackson to Alaskan Way & Broad Street on the waterfront. Two of the Cars went into service in 1982 for Metro Transit, while the other 3 went into service in-between 1990 and 1993 when the line was extended to the International District. On June 1st 2002, The line was named after George Benson, who spearheaded the efforts to get the line built on former Burlington Northern tracks along Alaskan Way. George Benson passed away in 2004. 

The Waterfront streetcar has been temporarily shut down and replaced by free buses, with the last car (#512) Departing the International District at 6:59 PM on November 18th, 2005. The car barn had to be demolished to be replaced by the Seattle Art Museum's Sculpture park. A new car barn is currently in the works, to be built in the international district and open by spring of 2007. The cars have been temporarily moved into covered storage in a building across the street from Metro's Central Base.
