In 1990 Pierce Transit contracted out with Seattle Metro Transit to
operate the than new "Seattle Express" in-between Seattle and Tacoma. By August of 1991,
Metro 1978 AMGenerals 10240B8's #1340-1347 were refurbished for use on the
Seattle Express. The original TD&T Wheelchair lift was removed,
and the coach received Grey carpeted floors, Red upholstered walls, Red
seatbacks, and burgundy cloth seats. Coaches 1348-1349 joined the first batch by
October of 1992. By May of 1995, after Pierce Transit took over operation of the
Seattle Express 6 of these buses were sold to Pierce Transit and renumbered
890-895. They lasted until mid to late 1999 when Sound Transit took over full
operations of the Seattle Express and the coaches were finally retired. They
were sold at auction in February and March of 2000. They were powered by a
Detroit Diesel 8V71T and Allison V730 automatic transmission. The former Seattle
Metro Number is in Parenthesis.
