Pierce Transit purchased 27 Orion 5.501 coaches in 1994 for the "Seattle Express" routes when Pierce Transit took over operation of the route from METRO. They were equipped with Cummins L10G Compressed Natural Gas engines, with ZF4HP500 transmissions. They feature High back seats, originally had carpeted floors (later converted to RCA rubber flooring), and roll signs.

These coaches were purchased by Sound Transit in April of 1999 and ran for Sound Transit by Pierce Transit until their retirement in April of 2008. At that time coaches 803, 805-810, 812-814, 816, 820-822, and 825 were retired and sold at auction on 6-7-08, with the remaining coaches 801-802, 804, 811, 815, 817-819, 824, 826-827 being transferred back to Pierce Transit and put into the reserve fleet.
