In 1981 TriMet purchased 87 Crown Ikarus Articulated coaches numbered 700-786. These coaches were never terribly successful in revenue service. Their first use in revenue service was in the fall of 1981 when they ran as public shuttles around the transit mall to get people and drivers acquainted with them. They entered revenue service on January 31st 1982 and the last one was withdrawn from service on March 26, 1999. The Crown coaches were originally delivered with folding step type wheelchair lifts, but they were disconnected after a 1989 incident where someone slipped off the lift.
